The next lanequest event is to be held on the 12th Feb, at the Farmers Arms pub in Spark Bridge, LA12 8DT (2 miles north of Greenodd on the A5092).� So if you fancy a 2 hour ride in a different area to normal why not give it a go!

31 people took part in the latest Kent Valley winter series lanequest event.� The course was around the Cartmel area which proved a testing terrain, with many climbs and a large area to cover.� Beau Smith was the eventual winner achieving 530 points.� First lady and second overall was Charlotte Somers-cocks with a fantastic 486.� First pair home was Rachel and Mike Toyn with 480 points.� For full results please see below.�Next event is on the 12^th Feb, Spark Bridge��

Kent Valley Club Runs 2011/12

Kent Valley Road club is reviving winter club runs in response to popular demand. They will be held once or twice a month, avoiding our winter lanequests (see separate details on this page) and will very definitely be for social exercise rather than pure training. The aim is to cover up to 40 miles in around three hours so the average speed should only be 13mph or so and, although a three-hour ride on varied terrain will, of course, boost fitness, those looking for serious, hard miles should venture elsewhere. The intention is to use quiet roads and stick together for some winter miles so anyone going off the front will quickly find themselves riding solo!

Anyway, here are the dates we have come up with (all starting at 9.30am apart from Christmas 10 and DT memorial ride):

Sunday, Oct 23rd from behind Askews Cycles in Kendal – choose route on day;
Sunday, Nov 6th from Cartmel Square (volunteer to plan a route welcome) with perhaps a cafe lunch in Cartmel afterwards before dispersing;
Sunday, Nov 27th from Kendal – choose route on day;
Sunday, December 18th – the Christmas 10 at Milnthorpe (11am) followed by a bite at Cross Keys Hotel (fancy dress optional but encouraged);
Monday, Jan 2nd, welcoming in New Year with ride from rear of Askews Cycles – route shaped by weather ;
Sunday, Jan 22nd from Milnthorpe Square (probably heading for Morecambe prom, especially if frosty);
Sunday, Feb 5th from Kendal – choose route on day;
Sunday, Feb 19th, Cartmel Square for, hopefully, a different route to last time;
Sunday, March 4th, Kendal – route decided on day;
Sunday, March 25th: Derek Tunstall Memorial Ride (starting at 10am), tour of the Kent Valley from Milnthorpe including lunch at Maggs Howe.

Lanequest 2011-12 9th October 2011 – Result

So what did you do this weekend? What about the Kent Valley Winter Lanequest?

Well I bet your motivation to ride your bike disappeared as soon as you opened the curtains on Sunday morning to discover yet another wet and windy morning, but thankfully not a chilly one! However, this last Sunday there was Kent Valley’s 1st Lanequest of the winter series to do, so before you know it your out of the door heading up the road.

This is one of the many reasons why you should consider doing these Lanequest events this winter. Among the Eighteen starters, people were using mountain bikes, hybrids, road bikes and even a tandem. There were male and female solo entries as well as teams which consisted of male and female and mixed ages, including a team consisting of a grandad and grandchild! This is what makes the Lanequest events so much fun because anyone can do these events.

For the 1st event in this series of six, there was a slight change to the usual format of collecting as many points as you can in 2 hours, with the introduction of a extra 10 minutes planning time added to the 2 hour event cut off time. The course was around the Brigsteer Valley area and provided the competitors with varied route options. The event was won by Mike and Rachel Toyn. Anthony Gill was the 1st solo male home, with Lisa Whetter being the 1st lady.

Thanks to the Hare and Hounds pub in Levens, which is a new venue to the series and provided some great post event food, for the competitors. The route was organised by Mark Whillacy and Paul Stewart, who provided a challenging but fun course.

Hopefully we will more people at the 2nd event which is on 13th November, based at the Punch Bowl Pub, Barrows Green.

The Dates and Venues...

9th Oct.� - Hare and Hounds, Levens
13th Nov. Punch Bowl, Barrows Green
11th Dec. The Head, Middleton
8th Jan. Cavendish Arms, Cartmel
12th Feb. Farmers Arms’ Lowick Green
11th Mar. The Smithy, Holme

Entry fee for each event �10, non memebers �9 KVRC members.

They are fun events that all start and finish at a pub where food is provided in the price of the entry.

The events are typically run from 10am to 10.30 and last for 2hrs. With the idea being to collect as many of the 30 controls as possible in the�2 hours.� The routes are all on road so any type of cycle can be used.�Registration is from 9.30am to 10.00am.

We advice pre-entery for the events as this helps us sort the maps and food out. Entries are taken on the day, but food cannot be guaranteed.�

RIDLEY BIKES

New for 2009 is the Ridley range. Ridley Bicycles was started by the innovative spirit of one man, Jochim Aerts. A highly-skilled frame builder and painter, Jochim founded Ridley in 1996 and in a few short years, Ridley became a market leader in Belgium for racing bikes. It was Jochim's partnerships with racing clubs and a good eye for advanced racing technology that created Ridley's early success. In 1997 Ridley signed it's first professional team, Spar, and then went on to work with Palmans-Colstrop in 1999. After much race testing, Ridley released the first full-carbon version of the now famous Damocles.

Team Kit Launch

Due to popular demand we have launched our own team strip. It has been designed in-house and is available from mid-september onwards. It is a project we have taken some considerable time and energy over. We didn't want to provide the usual uncomfortable team kit, so we have been looking for the right clothing manufacturer to use. We didnt want to use a manufacturer which compromised its product. And we have found it!

The kit has been designed with great looks in-mind without compromising on safety, durability and comfort. The shorts are great and come with features such as Gel inserts, mesh straps and silicon leg grippers.

We organise a group cycle-ride every Sunday from 9am till 12pm'ish. It leaves from the rear of the Askew Cycles shop. Rides average 16~18mph depending upon the time of year. Everyone is welcome so come for a ride and meet with other enthusiastic, friendly cyclists.
